Company History

Kansas Ink & Thread opened in 2006 as Sonofagun Press, a screen printing company providing t-shirts to local bands in the Kansas City area. The small basement shop quickly grew, providing screen printed apparel to businesses, churches, charity events, schools as well as bands.

Sonofagun Press moved to their downtown Leavenworth location on Cherokee street in March 2008 and in November 2010 became Brown Bear Printing. The company was named after Bear, the owner’s chocolate lab who passed away from cancer in 2011.

In 2019, Brown Bear Printing moved operations to Lansing, KS. In 2020, the owners acquired Sunflower Embroidery in Bonner Springs, KS. In an effort to streamline all locations and represent their great state and the services they offer, in April of 2022, the owner’s decided to rename their business “Kansas Ink & Thread.” The company now has two retail locations, one in Lansing, Kansas and one in Bonner Springs, Kansas.
